As an editor I automatically look at everything as I read – from grammar and usage to plot holes, timeline flow and character issues. I combine line, copy, and content editing into one low price because I simply can’t proofread or copy edit without pointing out content problems. I want your manuscript to be the absolute best it can be, and that means looking at the manuscript as a whole, not just aspects.
An edit includes anything related to a manuscript including blurbs, synopses, media releases, etc. If you need me to look over a blog post announcing the book’s release, send it over – I’m happy to do it at no extra charge. Once you make revisions I will do another editing pass if needed on any sections with major changes or additions. All discussion with me via email or phone (your preference) before and after the edit is included. Many of my authors are long-term repeat clients and we chat back and forth all the time discussing upcoming ideas and projects – there are never charges for consultations or discussions.
For a typical manuscript I utilize Track Changes in Word and provide the following:
- Proofreading, including correction of all grammatical, spelling, tense, and usage errors.
- Sentence polishing. I will correct the incomplete, trim the cumbersome, and ensure flow and clarity.
- Notes on character, plot, and timeline development and issues.
- Recommendations on whether deletions or additions need to be made or if a certain section needs to be fleshed out.
- Recommendations on whether the manuscript is too short, too long, or needs to be split and the best way to go about making the revisions.
How do we get started?
Use the “Contact Me” link to send me an email. Let me know the genre, approximate length of the manuscript, and any other pertinent information. I request that new clients send me one to two chapters so that I can get a feel for your writing style and any obvious issues the manuscript may have. If you like I can provide you with a brief sample edit so that you can see my work as well. I will provide you with a quote at that time based on the total word count of your manuscript.
Please note that I usually schedule at least one to two months in advance. My calendar fills quickly so please give me as much notice as possible. Authors often have delays however, so contact me to see if I can work you in.
How long does it take?
I do my best to give you a timely completion. These are estimates based on my average turnaround; your project may take more or less time depending on how much editorial work it requires. I stay in contact with you throughout the process to keep you informed of my progress.
Novellas under 40k 3-5 days
Novels 40k-90k 5-7 days
Novels 90k+ 7-10 days
How do I pay you?
I accept Paypal payments only – payment information is included on your invoice. I require a 50% deposit from new clients before a project begins and the remaining balance is due upon completion. This is not required for established clients.
